Seed collection is a favorite activity among volunteers in ecological restoration. Two such opportunities will be in the prairies of Price Park Conservancy near Elkhorn in support of Project Wingspan, a multi-state landscape-scale restoration effort. Kettle Moraine Land Trust is a Core Partner of Project Wingspan. Volunteers for the Project Wingspan collection outings are required to complete a simple online training module available here. When you sign in, please self-identify as being with KMLT. Our two dates at Price Park are Wednesday, September 23, 2020 and Thursday, October 1, 2020; both collection outings are from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at N6421 Hodunk Road, Elkhorn, WI 53121.
For these seed-collection outings, please bring your own work gloves and any hand tools you would wish to use (e.g., pruning shears). Also please bring your own collection bag(s). Reusable grocery bags or tote bags work well for this purpose and you’ll be able to keep your bag for subsequent reuse. We recommend that you wear long pants, long sleeves, and a sun hat. Please bring your own water and any snacks you may wish to have while in the field. All participants must be masked; masks may be removed while working alone, well apart from other volunteers. Hand sanitizer will be available on site.
