If you are subject to the Required Minimum Distribution from an IRA, you may be able to save taxes while joining us in preserving natural resources in Walworth County.
Your IRA Can Help
Donors aged 70½ or older may make direct contributions to Kettle Moraine Land Trust of up to $100,000 per taxable year from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). The donation can be excluded from your gross income for that year, provided that:
- you are at least 70½ when the distribution is made
- the gift is from a traditional or Roth IRA
- you direct your IRA manager to transfer the funds directly to ADL
- you do not receive any goods or services in return for the gift
You can use these distributions to support Kettle Moraine Land Trust’s work to protect natural areas and improve their resilience. Such a qualified distribution, while not eligible for an income tax deduction, will not be reported to you as income and therefore no tax will be due on the withdrawal. The donation may also satisfy all or part of your minimum distribution requirement for 2017.
To make a qualified distribution to Kettle Moraine Land Trust, simply contact your IRA administrator and follow their guidance. Also, please email or call 262-646-7211 to let us know that you are making this gift. As always, consult your financial, tax or legal advisor to determine the best giving strategy.
If you value nature your support is needed NOW. With your help we can teach the next generation and every generation to be wise stewards of nature. If you are a KMLT member already – thank you. Every donation is tax deductible and every amount helps.
