Winter Seeding of the Prairie
Join us for a morning of giving back. We’ll start off by spreading prairie seed that was collected last fall. We’ll spread the seed over the snow covered prairie. As the snow melts, it pulls the seed down into the soil where it finds just the right spot to spend the rest of the winter. In the spring as temperatures warm up, the seed germinates and produces a beautiful new plant to adorn the prairie.
We’ll also be working to improve the Sugar Creek Fen. The Fen is home to many rare plants. Invasive glossy buckthorn will be cut to make room for these important plants to spread out.
Come for an hour or stay all morning. Lunch will be provided. Please register by calling Maggie Zoellner at: (262) 949-7211, or Colleen Lesniak, Walworth County Volunteer Services Coordinator (262) 741-4390.
